Electrical problem
1992 Pontiac Sunbird 4 cyl Automatic

I was driving and it started not responding to me pressing the gass then just died. Now it will not start I can smell gas when I try to crank it also the fuel thing moves. We thought it was the spark plug wires so we replaced them but it still will not start. What do I do to fix it. Please help this car is the only means of transportation my husband and I have

Check for spark. If no spark start removing the timing belt cover. Because if the belt is okay its most likely the crankshaft sensor and you'll need stuff like the alternator and power steering pump out of the way anyhow. The wire harness goes behind the back timing belt cover and is a pain. Get some safety wire and hook onto the plug end before pulling it out. Then wrap the new end in elec black tape (keep dirt out) and twist the wire around the plug and GENTLY pull it back thru. Mine is a 94 2.0 yours may be slightly different. Chiltons manual will show the location of the sensor.
