I have a 1993 Pontiac Grand Prix, 3.1 engine with 140,000 miles. It will start and idle, but when it warms up, it dies and won't start again for a couple of days. Had a friend put a code tester on it, and it pulled all codes possible. He said that isn't possible, the car wouldn't run if all things coded were bad, and either the ignition coil was bad, or the crank shaft position sensor was bad. Replaced the crank shaft position sensor and the problem still exists. Is there a way to test the ignition coil with a volt meter? Or is something else going on. Pulled a spark plug wire and check for fire. When it starts, there is fire, but when it won't start, there is no fire. It is obvious something is causing it to lose fire, but I am trying to rule out all possible things, before spending more money on this car. Any help would be appreciated.

Sometimes, when there is multiple codes, it might be a faulty ground circuit somewhere.

When there is no spark anywhere, with the engine cranking, check for B+ and ground at the ignition module, you can do the testing with the key on, you don't have to crank it. If there is a two wire connector, pink and black, the pink is B+ and the black is ground. You can take the connector loose, turn on the key, use a test lite between the two terminals, it should lite.
