Hello,

An inoperative blower fan can be due to a faulty switch, bad relay, malfunctioning blower motor resistor, bad motor or wiring issue.

First check the relay.
The blower motor relay is located under the hood (see diagram).
Check for any corrosion or burnt pin(s).
You can also test the relay.

If the relay is good, then make sure the blower motor is getting power. To see if the motor is good or bad you can test it by simply applying 12V power to it.

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Let me know what you find or if you have any questions.
Thank you.

There are 2 problems I cannot seem to pinpoint. First, As I accelerate, the headlights get brighter and the blower motor for the heating sytem runs higher. Also the ABS light will NOT go off. What could cause that. Second, When I put the car in Neutral and rev the motor up it hits a certain point and starts to whir I gues it sounds like a chattering rev. Up and down quickly. Any ideas? Thank You

Have the charging system tested at most autoparts stores for free. Look for alt. Output loaded and unloaded. Even if it is charging properly you may have a bearing in the alt. Going south. Also check for proper belt tension and belt condition.
The test also includes a battery, starter test.

The ABS light is hopefully a wheel sensor that has worked loose, but you would need to get the car scanned with a chassis scanner to get the ABS fault.

Since this is an OBDI car, most likely you will have to get a trusted garage, or the dealer service scan the ABS system.

The fan for the heater works intermittenly in winter/ below freezing temps. Sometimes while I'm driving and hit a bump it will come back on after not working. Works fine in summer for A/C.
Also, where is the fan located? How do I go about getting to it? Do I need to take apart the dash? Thanks

The fan is located under the dash on the passanger side. And yes, you need to take part of the dash apart to access it. As far as the problem, it could be a bad blower motor relay that is reacting to the temp change. To be sure, you will need to check the fan to see if it is getting power when it isn't working. Also, I would also suggest making a new ground strap from the motor to a ground on the body to make sure it has a good ground.

Let me know if you have other questions.

Hey Alan,
I had the same problem in my 1992 pontiac grand am. It turned out for me to be the blower motor itself maybe a short or whatever me and a buddy replaced mine and it works like a charm. I ve been there hope this helps. Josh
