My blower motor has been acting up and stops?

1999 Pontiac Grand Am 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 156k miles

my blower motor in my 99 grand am has been acting up 1 night after I absentmindedly left it running for like 2 hrs, it'll blow when the car hasn't warmed up yet, or even when I take a hard left it'll kick on full power, otherwise it'll turn on for a second then off again. Also if I hit the underboards beneath the glovebox it'll start up weakly sometimes. I'm not too saavy w/ the troubleshooting aspect of vehicles so was wandering if maybe it could be some relay, bad ground, loose connection. Any advice would be much appreciated, I live in northern mn and it's been below zero the past 2 days and this weekend might get down to -40 or so w/ the windchill, I need my heat! Thanx for your time

Most likely you need a new blower motor
it sounds to me as if the brushes in the motor

The heater fan will cut off inexplicably and may come on again when I hit a bump in the road. The fan speeds work when the fan is operting properly.
What must be removed to access the fan motor.

You are on the right track it sounds like its the blower motor

I have little heat in the car and my fan does not work I have checked fuses what else could the problem be.

Yes, if the blower motor is not working the heater will not work as well. Here is how to test he blower motor power and ground to make sure the motor is the problem.

Here is the location of the blower motor and how to change it out. Check out the images (below). Let us know how it goes. You will need to cut the insulation to get at the blower motor.

Where can I find the plug for the heater? This is the second Grand Am I've owned on my last one I had the same problem and they found corroded terminals

Have you checked heater fuses? I don't know an easy way to get at the connector. You may have to access the blower motor and follow the wires.

The autozone site has info on getting at the blower motor. Click on( vehicle repair guides) follow the links for y--m--m, then type blower motor in their( parts search box), that page will have a link at the bottom for getting at the blower motor.

BLOWER MOTOR WILL NOT RUN
Check fuses. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Check for voltage at function control switch. Switch blower switch to HI position. Check for voltage at switch and at high-speed blower relay. Ground blower motor with ignition switch in RUN position. If blower operates, motor is okay.

Check the blower motor fuse 30amp in engine compartment fuse center and blower relay in right rear in engine compartment-

Do this -you can power the blower motor purple wire and see if it works direct from the battery postitive post-

When I was recently on a long distance drive, I had the AC on in my car. When I switched it over to just the fan, the fan actually stopped working and I smelled something very hot. Then engine temperature was normal and the smell went away after just a minute or two. However, When I turn the fan or AC on, it barely blows anything out, and when I turn the fan speed up it doesn't change, but I get that hot smell. My dad thinks it's the blower resistor, do you have any suggestions and what would the instructions for changing the resistor be?

Hi there,

I would be thinking that the fan motor is at fault. Often you blow only one circuit of the resistor and the fan will still work on other speeds, check this out first.

I have already tried to use the fan on different settings and the speed doesn't change. I also get that hot smell when I try to turn the speed up. It will blow when it is on setting 1 however it barely feels like anything is coming out.

If a fuse keeps blowing, it usually means something is faulty in the circuit. The wiring should be checked along with the components in the circuit to determine if there's a short or other problem. If a fuse blows in a motor circuit (heater blower motor, cooling fan motor, power seat or window, electric fuel pump, etc.), It often indicates a shorted motor. In your case, I would suspect a faulty blower motor.

Sunday the blower motor quit operating then later on it worked, Tuesday it quit again, I noticed that along with this the AC clutch does not engage when in ac mode or defroster mode, fuse ohms out as good, I don't believe it is the motor, but maybe the 'main rotary switch" next to the fan switch

At fuse block check the Heater/AC fuse 25amp. This problem could be the Heater/AC control assembly,blower motor resistor/blower motor relay located it in the right rear of engine compartment. See below

Blower motor does not turn on I can feel the cold or the heat in the vent. I have removed the blower motor and had it checked and it works fine it turnd on but when I instaled it back in samething. I have also checked the fuses and there fine. One more thing, I have power windows and they stopped working at the same time the blower did I don't know if it's from the same thing. Please help!

This is a hard one with out the car but if yu have a test light or meter start checking fuses and relays one is drivers side dash and other is under hood below battery, also check your grounds. Hope this gets you on the right track.
