Engine Cooling problem
1997 Pontiac Grand Am 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

After driving about 25 miles and turning off the engine, the car dumped a pretty significant amount of coolant. It appeared to have come from the overflow cap? I had to pull over twice to refill on the way home (10 miles). I can not see any problems with leaking hoses but the coolant is going some where. Also I do not hear a fan running to cool the engine. Where do I start?

When the vehicle is at operating temperature if fan is not on. Try tapping on the fan motor to see if motor may be seized. If that doesnt work try swapping relays and checking the fuses under the hood on the driver side of vehicle. If fan does work you may need to pressure test it to see if you have a leak.
