My daughter's old well worn Grand Am, whose AC hasn't been working at all now needs a new compressor clutch. It's scraping and losing metal filings pretty regularly. In order to just keep the car on the road, I was planning on removing the compressor from the bottom and replacing the clutch. I've got a small universal puller/installer I've used on other GM compressor clutches. I don't plan on re-charging the system since it doesn't work anyway, but wanted to get the car back on the road at least for the rest of winter.

Am I going about this the right way?

All help and advice is appreciated.

If you are not recharging the a/c, and don't plan to, you can buy a pulley that eliminates the compressor.
If you plan on recharging it, buy one at the junkyard that has a good clutch, then just swap then without opening the system. Just a small bolt, and snap ring.
