Engine Performance problem
1993 Pontiac Grand Am 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

the car will start first time I start it for the day no problem. After that if say I go to the store and im in and out it wont start I turn the key and it just wont turn over. If were in the store for hours it usually will start back up. I also notice that when we idle at an intersection or light the car dies. Even if were only ideling for 5 minutes. The mechanic put a new ground connection. New fuel pump put in a carburator cleaner. What else can we try.

If say I go to the store and im in and out it wont start I turn the key and it just wont turn over. Next time it won't fire up do below to determine if its fuel or spark problem.

Disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coils, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors-
