Engine Mechanical problem
1998 Other Oldsmobile Models 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My serpentine belt broke and wrapped around the crankshaft a couple of times. The engine died immediatly when the belt broke. I've replaced the belt (after removing an engine mount bolt) but now it cranks but wont start. Could it have hit the crank position sensor? If so where is it exactly and how do I get at it to check it?

Help Please.

Very likely it is mounted on the front cover behind the crank pully.
Does the check engine light? If so what code is set?

Need to get in and check the crank sensor if no code then pcm is getting reference signal. The belt may have moved it out of position or a piece of it is on sensor blocking signal.

It looks like the belt spun on the plastic housing behind the harmonic balancer which seems to be all part of the sensor and chewed it up its broken off where it bolts onto the oil pan and it wiggles back and forth on the bottom.
It appears to be 1 piece of plastic all the way around the harmonic balancer do you have to take that off to change the sensor?

NOw we are gettin' somewhere. Yes balancer must be removed. Auto Zone will loan you the puller. You may need to take that motor mount off again and let engine drop so you can get puller on.
Happy Motoring
Let me know
