1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass won't start

I have a 91 cutlass v6 and my car just wouldnt start one day there was no clicking or anything, but there was power to the dash. The problem was the starter and to check if thats the case you must jack your car up and connect the positive wire of the starter to the positive of the battery u can do this with a screwdriver if nohing happens after the spark
