Hi,
In most cases, a crank no start is the result of either a fuel-related or ignition-related issue. However, if the vehicle was severely overheated, other damage may have occurred.
Here is what I need you to try:
First, see if the engine starts using starting fluid. If it does and then stalls, we know it is a fuel-related issue. If there is absolutely no change, I need you to check for spark at the spark plugs.
Here is a link that explains how to check:

When you first said the thermostat blew, I suspected that coolant was sprayed under the hood. If that is the case, we may have an issue with the crankshaft position sensor. The aforementioned testing will let me know if that is a possibility.
Also, if you can record the engine cranking and upload it for me to hear, I should be able to identify if there is a compression issue.
Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.
Take care,
Joe
