Hi Ken, I need your help again. This car is still for sale. Had a no crank no start. The guy tried jumping battery under the trunk. I heard you are only suppose to jump under the hood on these cars. Is that correct? After he jumped to charge battery he also jumped the black 4 prong relay under passenger side glove box. It's the only black relay on that fuse panel labeled #30. We thought it was starter relay but is car access relay whatever that is. He jumped the right pins. After jumping battery and relay, all the headlights, brake lights, interior lights, dome lights and wipers stayed on with car off. Also the automatic shifter would not move.

Before that it moved. So all lights staying on with car off. Still didn't fix no start. You said it might be fmr module. I think BMW has a recall or under warranty. I am asking for your help again as I might buy car but you need to explain in simple terms how to check this fmr module. I am far away from car. Please help. Can you test this module? Should we disconnect those fuses so battery wont drain? Need it in simple terms you sent pics of fmr module. Footwell module, but I didn't understand.

Hi, please explain if the key has to be in the on position on this car to test the fuses. All the headlights are on, and the wipers, brake lights (with car off) and shifter wont shift(automatic) you said to check the fuses. Please explain in simple terms? I know how to use a continuity meter or test light on them, but have no idea what the last pics are that you sent me.I understand the one with the fuses, but not the other components. Also do you know what that black relay does that we accidentally jumped and how do you test that foot well module. Also can I just pull the wiper fuse out to stop the wipers from staying on with car off? What fuse is that for the wipers? Guy has battery disconnected so it wont drain, so I don't know how we are gonna check power to fuses if car has to be on. Does car have to be running to check the fuses. It wont start or crank. That was initial problem. Thanks for all your help!

Hi, Hookie,

There are several different posts on this thread, so I'm not sure what you are working with. Would you copy and paste your question to a new thread? We are trying to keep the threads specific to one topic. As far as checking fuses (I don't know which you are checking), some fuses do require to have the key in the on position for them to receive power.

Please start a new thread specific to what you are working with. I will keep my eyes open for it.

Take care,
Joe

Should we disconnect those fuses so battery wont drain? Need it in simple terms you sent pics of fmr module. Footwell module, but I didn't understand.

Also the wipers stay on with car off. What fuse can I pull to shut them off?
And also, the car does not start so how do I check the fuses. With key on position or what position and explain in simple terms thanks.
Also if it wont shift out of park how can I get it towed?

I added a pic of the relay we jumped under passenger dash=black 4 prong square. We thought it was the starter relay

It sounds like the starter is not working. To confirm take a look at this guide:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/starter-not-working-repair

Can you please shoot a quick video with your phone so we can see what's going on? that would be great. You can upload it here with your response.

After jumping the battery and some relay that wasn't starter relay, ALL the CAR LIGHTS STAY ON when CAR IS OFF! Wipers on too and car shifter will not move after both jumps. You mentioned something about footwell.I don't understand you explaination. How do I test this? And battery is disconnected as Headlites and all are on with car off. Hello, the push button does nothing and no crank when you try to start this car. We found a relay (black 4 prong) under passenger side under glove box. We thought it was the starter relay. It is black in color and has 4 prongs. We tried to jump it to close the circuit and right after that all the headlights, brake light, interior lights, and windshield wipers turned on and wont turn off. The car was off and all these lights, even dome light stayed on. We had to disconnect the battery so it would not loose its charge.
Did we ruin the computer? Also it will not shift. The shifter will not move. Car still no start and its automatic. Any help appreciated.
I don't think that was a starter relay as we thought. Someone said module relay. It's square and looks like a relay. Please help I will put a picture of this part on later.
The black relay we jumped was the only one of that color under the passenger glove box.I saw a video on you tube and said this is really not a relay but looks just like one. Its called a "car access module" I have no idea what it does but it looks just like a 4 prong square relay. We jumped this part to close the switch from one pin to another. That's when all the lights came on and wipers and dome lights and car would not shift (shifter would not move). Some people replace this to start car.I think we ruined something jumping this as with the car off, and after jumping this part, all the lights and wipers stay on all the time and shifter wont move. Here is the black BMW 2008 328i relay we jumped with small jumper wire, then car was possed after plugging relay back in. All lights stayed on (headlights, brake, dome lights), on with car off and automatic shifter wont move now and windshield wipers also stay on with car off? This relay is behind glove compartment passenger side. Upper right. Only black relay on fuse board. Its square and small says 30 on it on relay location Please help!
