I have a 1997 Maxima with 215,000 miles. Auto 2 wheel that does not want to start in any weather. The battery, starter and altinator were replaced in aug of 06, that is the 3rd time they were replaced since we have owned the car new. In order to get car to start, I have to wiggle the shifter, and the steering wheel. This will usually get her to start after awhile. The car has been like this since we purchased it, but it is getting progressivly worse. Now it takes about an hour of doing this to get it to crank over. Per dealer they have a sercurity feature that the car has to be in park to get it started, we need to wiggle shifter and it should be fine. We have done this for the past 10 years, and it is not working anymore. There are no other issues once the car starts, there is not problems driving. When you turn the key there is nothing, but the battery is not dead, we did take that as well as the started to autozone and had it tested. Any sugestion would be appreciated, or if you need any additional ifo please let me know.

Sounds like the safety neutral inhibitor system is not engaging at park. Try to place the shifter at neutral. If it start then take it to an ASE mechanicindependent shop. This should be fairly easy.I fixed plenty of mumbo jumbo wingers job from dealership.
Good luck man

We have tried it in netural and park, we have checked all of the fuses under the hood, and nothing. If the car sits for a few days, it will start up w/o a problem. Its when you try and start it more that approx 2 times a day, there is a problem.
