Truck stopped other day had to jump off to restart then within few miles same thing down again. Just replaced alternator. Connected with cables to another running vehicle let it absorb juice. Now it will turn over but will not start. It catches the starter at times when turning over and grinds like when you try to crank already running. All the cables are good connections are clean new belt not overpowering gas smell like carb is flooded fuses are good. Just wont crank

Is the problem that the starter isn't working properly or it does and the engine won't start? To me, since you had to jump start it a couple times leads me to believe the battery is low or the alt isn't charging. As far as the description of the starter, it sounds like a bad solenoid. Let me know.

Okay, if it is turning over, can you check to see if there is spark and fuel to the engine? One is most likely missing. The easiest way to check is by trying to start it with starting fluid. If it starts, then you know it is a fuel related issue. If it doesn't start, then it is a no spark (ignition) problem.

Check that and let me know what you find.
