Hi,
In most cases, these symptoms indicate either a faulty crankshaft position sensor or low fuel pressure.
To start, take a look through this link. It explains the most common causes of a crank no start condition.

Also, I need you to check for spark and fuel to the engine. This will point us in the right direction to focus.
The easiest way to do this is by checking if it will start if you use starting fluid. If it starts for a couple of seconds and then stalls, it's a fuel problem. If it makes no difference, then it is likely ignition-related.
Here are two links. If you don't want to try the starting fluid, these links explain how to test fuel pressure and ignition spark.

Let me know the results. Also, if you don't have a fuel pressure gauge, most parts stores will lend one to you.
Let me know what you find or if you have other questions. Also, please confirm the engine size so I know what specifically we are working with.
Take care,
Joe
