2004 Ford F-250 EGR valve--still won't start

I took out the EGR valve and cleaned it. It ran just fine yesterday. This morning I tried to start the truck and it will not start. It fires but will not stay running. It is still belching black smoke. Where do I look now for the problem?

Possibly a cat convertor prob. Loosen the exhaust. Create a exhaust lrak if vehicle runs ok restriction in exhaust. This can be tested bye drilling a hole in converter and testing with a back pressure guage. But loossening the exhaust will do the same thing. Billymac
