1993 Other Mitsubishi Models nobody knows whats wrong with t

Every few days the car won't start. No turn over, no lights, no power whatsoever. To start it, we put the car in nuetral then turn the key and it magically starts.

ever so often, once the car has been parked over night or hasn't been driven for a day or so, putting the car in reverse from park it will delay or pause before emitting a grinding sound and lurching backwards in reverse. Its enough of a lurch that it jerks you forward in your seat.

the check engine light came on recently. Its on all the time, it does not blink. Immediately after the light came on, the car started to make a sound that was like thunder coming from the motor and/or wheels, we couldn't tell. It seemed to come from everywhere.

we have no idea what its problem is. We have a few mechanic friends that have looked at it, and nothing seems to be amiss.

please, if you could give me any information on what to look for, anything would be helpfull.

i don't know if it helps, but the person we purchased the car from had a new transmission put in about a year ago.
