1999 Mitsubishi Galant evaporator solenoid

An autoshop tells me I have a problem with an evaporator solenoid and told me I shouldnt drive my car. Is this a typical problem for this mileage and what affects does it have on my car if it is driving as it normally does? And how much is it to normally repair this problem?

Was check engine light on? If yes do you know the code. I will need that to help

No they didnt give me the code but I will try and get it and get back to u. And yes the service engine light is on.
