New scan. Not sure exactly what I was looking for so I'm sending some screen shots. I have a few more readings if these aren't it. 2 current codes. #6 misfire, which would be that bad coil and P0088.

Hi,

Your fuel rail pressure is reading at 28,080 kPA which = 4,072 PSI. This is absolutely crazy to be at idle! If this is true, I would replace the high-pressure fuel pump. Does your scan tool show a reference voltage for that fuel pressure sensor? It should vary around 5v.

I will help you out with some part #s. They want you to replace the high-pressure line with the pump. Whenever I do these on any type of car, I try to source a cam follower also, as this is what pushes against the cam lobe while the engine turns, making it a wearable item. I will write the instructions below as well. Please take note, the engine will need to be rotated by hand to allow the cam follower to fall into its lowest position, otherwise tightening down the fuel pump will be difficult, and you could possibly snap off a bolt in the engine.

Kia high pressure fuel pump: 353203L110
Kia high pressure fuel pipe: 353053L110
Kia fuel pump cam follower: 222263CCXX (note: "XX" can range from A0 to E0, which is a lot of options of cam followers in varying degrees of thickness, I recommend you plug your VIN into the parts site and see if one pops up specific for your car. Otherwise, you may need to see if there is a stamp on your follower)

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Release the residual pressure in fuel line.
2. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the battery negative (-) terminal.
3. Remove the high-pressure fuel pump foam (A).
(SEE IMAGE 1)
4. Disconnect the fuel pressure control valve connector (A) and fuel feed tube quick connector (B).
(SEE IMAGE 2)
5. Remove the intake manifold.
6. Remove the high-pressure fuel pipe.
7. Remove the mounting bolts (A), and then remove the high-pressure fuel pump (B) from the cylinder head assembly
High pressure fuel pump mounting bolt:
12.8 - 14.7 N m (1.3 - 1.5 kgf m, 9.4 - 10.9 lb ft)

8. Unscrew in turns the two bolts in small steps (0.5 turns). When one of the two bolts is fully unscrewed while the other bolt still intact, the housing surface of the cylinder head may be broken due to tension of the pump spring.
(SEE IMAGE 3)

Installation

9. Be sure that the low-pressure fuel hose quick connector (A) is completely connected to the high-pressure fuel pump by the locking sound.
10. Double-check the complete connection of the low-pressure fuel hose to the high-pressure fuel pump by pulling it after connecting.
11. Be sure to install the high-pressure fuel pipe (B) to the specified torques.
12. Because fuel leak may cause fire, thoroughly inspect leakage of all fuel line connection parts at engine start condition.
(SEE IMAGE 4)

13. Before installing the high-pressure fuel pump, position the roller tappet in the lowest position by rotating the crankshaft. Otherwise, the installation bolts may be broken because of the tension of the pump spring.
Do not reuse the used bolt.
Do not reuse the used high pressure fuel pipe.
14. When tightening the installation bolts of the high-pressure fuel pump, tighten in turns the bolts in small steps (0.5 turns) after tightening them to hand-screwed torque.
Install the component to the specified torques.
Firsthand-tighten the fasteners fully until they are not fastened any more in order to have them inserted in place and then completely tighten to the specified torque using a torque wrench.
Bolts or nuts not tightened in a straight line with the matching bolt holes or fittings may cause fuel leakage due to broken threads.
Note that internal damage may occur when the component is dropped. In this case, use it after inspecting.

15. Apply engine oil to the O-ring (A) of the high-pressure fuel pump, the roller tappet (B), and the protrusion (C). Also apply engine oil to the groove on the location where the protrusion (C) is installed.
(SEE IMAGE 5)

Install in the reverse order of removal.

I hope this fixes it, and I hope your holiday goes well!
William

Thanks for all the instructions and time. I just need to research how to rotate the engine and the cam follower stuff. I will ask my neighbor if he knows tomorrow. Not as simple as just removing it and putting another one on.

The cam follower will either come out with the pump, or you just put your finger in there and pull it out. For turning the engine, I use a 1/2" ratchet with extensions through the wheel well and turn the crankshaft pulley bolt. You only need to do incremental turns to the right and keep checking until you learn the lowest spot of travel. You got this!

Scratch that last message. I got all the injectors changed out and it purrs like a kitten. Two of the first injectors were clogged up pretty badly and the rest didn't look good. So, it was worth doing. We are back to what you said. 4 codes after this change. P0088 and misfire on 2 and 6 and random misfires. I backed it out down the long driveway, and it was smooth as can be. Got on the road put it in drive and it started smoothly and stopped at 2,000 RPMs wouldn't go any higher. So, I'm shopping for high pressure fuel pump.

Hello,

I'm sorry about the injectors. Please refer to the Kia part numbers above for a new pump, see if you can snag a pressure line with it for good measure.

Keep us updated,
William

Hey wanted to follow up and thank you for all your help! It turned out to be the high pressure fuel pump after changing everything else out. Just recently I got a warranty extension letter from KIA on a defective high pressure fuel pump that they would replace for free. Sent them a $1200 bill, will see if they pay it.
