1995 Mercury Villager Why won't it start?

Engine Performance problem
1995 Mercury Villager 6 cyl Automatic

My Villager will start and run for a couple of hours but then it will die and won't start for some time. I replaced the fuel filter twice and my air filter is still new. What do I have to do to get this thing running good again?
