Transmission problem 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic 77,000 miles

I have a 2004 Mercury mountainneer and it started shift hard. I was told to check the transmission fluid but it doesn't have a dip stick. I was wondering if I had to take it to the dealer or is there anywhere else I could take it.

These car are a little different than what you are used to. Ford has made it so you cannot just grab the dipstick and check the fluid like the good old days. Here is what they want you do do now.

Basically you force fluid into the pan by pressure, then you let the access run out, once it done draining you put the plug back in this is what sets the level of the tube inside the pan.

Here is a guide in case you want to service it.

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.
