Engine problem
2000 Mazda Protege 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 111k miles

The car makes little vaccum and alot of exhaust and when the butterfly is open there is positive air pressure in the air box and the motor will only idle. The timing belt is correct according to Auto data manual but incorrect according to the Haynes manual. The motor is a 1.6L DOHC.

Does it sound like a diesel? If so recheck the timing. Use a timing light to be sure, before you start dismantling!
