1991 Mazda 626 car won't stay running

The car was running but in park the idle would jump up and down and act like it wanted to die when in drive stopped at a light, now it won't start at all I checked the plugs and wires they are fine. Could it be the maf sensor

Try disconnecting a sparkplug wire and ground it to the engine and crank it over -do you have a snapping blue spark-if so check the fuel pressure then comeback with your findings
