PCM Replacement?
2002 FORD F-250

Okay, it does not look water damaged but that does not mean it is not good. You need special equipment to check it to see if it has failed.

From what I’ve been reading, I’m guessing I’ll be better off buying a new one and getting it programmed. As I’m also guessing having it checked out by a dealer will be close to a new one and programming with diagnostic costs.

That makes perfect sense but if it were my truck, I would want to know it was the issue before buying one. I like to have some sort of confirmation before replacing the part.

Just an update. I have a replacement fuse box coming Friday. I’ll return if that doesn’t work. I had the truck at a friends house from work for around two months but he never got around to it and this diagnosing is passed any exposure I’ve had. Don’t get me wrong, I love working on vehicles, but wiring is something I’ve never played with much.

Looking for a BCM/VSM but just can’t locate an exact part number match. I would like to think there’s a newer number it crosses to but heck.

What is the number you currently have on your module?

Okay, the number was updated but it does not show the new number.
Call the Ford dealer and ask them for the part number.
I attached rock auto that has the 3 available units with the part numbers.

Good news. I found a ground from the alternator split in two. Reconnected and started her up. Wire got hot so I went underneath again. I found the starter battery wire sitting against the chassis and had rubbed through. Totally my fault, can’t believe I didn’t loom it. Fixed that and it appears all codes, even from when I bought it, are gone but I will continue to monitor. Only issues that remain are the power locks and key-less entry do not work. Headlights don’t work but I have running lights and high beams. But when I turn the switch to the headlights, they go out?

Okay, please start a new question for the remaining items that need attention. Site rules limit us to one issue per question and we have gone beyond that.

2002 Ford F-250 XLT mileage: 70,000. I was checking for a power steering fluid leak, I had my wife turning the wheel back and forth found the leak and fixed the problem. My problem is when my wife left the key on and I didn't find out till the morning. At that time, my battery was gone. I charged up the battery tried to start the truck with no luck. It turned over but would not run. I ended up jumping the fuel pump relay and it started right up. I checked the codes and received all 11 all okay. I went for a little drive maybe five miles turned the truck off till the next morning. Went to start it and nothing again. Jumped the relay again and it started. But this time it was running real rough and if I gave it gas it would die plus the check engine light stayed on. I ended up taking it to the ford dealer to look at it. The tech said the computer has no data output. The MAP censer needs replacing and the catalytic converter was plugged. My question to you is there any way I can test the computer for data output with out a lot of expense.

The ECM may be faulty. Try scanning it for fault codes; you will need a scan tool for this procedure and it is not cheap. Is it possible that the battery was jumped backwards when you were trying to get it started? If it was, you probably "cooked" the ECM.

Are you sure that is a 2002 or a 1992? As 2002s unless it has a diesel doesn't have a MAP sensor

hi first thing i would do is scan for codes.it is possible for the pcm to have a injector driver prob if so this should have a code.check all the eng grounds.but most likely it will turn out to be a pcm prob. good luck billymac
