If this is a carbureted vehicle, there would be no MIL.

MIL = Malfunction Indicator Light, more commonly known as Check Engine Light (CEL ) or Service Engine Soon (SES).

Being carburetted means the light is not used in the system so you would not find it in the meter cluster.

It would have the DLC if it has the feedback carburettor system. The DLC is for testing the variuos emission control components.

There would be no trouble codes to look out for.

Transmission does not switch to OVERDRIVE mode anymore. Transmission shift OK from 1-2-3, just overdrive is the problem. Check engine light does comes on-and-off. Sometimes stays on for a few minutes, then off.

What do I need to do to correct the problem?

Check the computer for DTC's and test the coolant temperature sensor. The computer take its input signals to provide overdrive in a given engine temperature.
