1st you need a repair manual-then find the diagnostic check connector and jumper TE-1 to E1 this will flash the code/s that's been stored in the brain Computer and comeback with it. THis guide can help us get the codes

Please run down this guide and report back.

On my 1994 22 re pickup the check engine light is on and 80% of the time it has not power, bad fuel mileage and runs rich and will shut off. I pulled the code and comes up water temp sensor. The temp gauge is working normal so it must be the water temp sensor for the efi. The question is where is it located at and would be helpfully if you had a picture of it. THANKS

Is it blinking continously without pausing for a sec?

Check for power at the batt pin on the computer might not be there.

Thanks for replying. Yes it blinks without pausing. When the engine is running it goes out like there is nothing wrong. I took the EFI fuse out for over a minute to let it reset but it still blinks without pausing. The past 2 or 3 months i've noticed a decline in my MPG. I've had injectors and the intake cleaned. That helped a little. It runs good when at idle and on level ground but when you start uphill it wants to lope a little. Thanks

Check engine light comes on after 1-2 minutes after cranking. Jumped te1-e1 and check engine light wont flash a code. I have put plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, changed fuel injectors, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump relay, ignition coil, temperature sensor, AFM sensor, TPS, fuel pump, and EGR valve. I didn't mind changing all those on a 25 year old truck, but would like to just be able to remedy this situation. Thanks for any help

Good morning,

Does the check engine light come on when the key is turned on?

I attached the code chart for you below and the procedure. If you followed the chart as described and it will not show codes, then I would think you have a bad ECM.

Roy

Toyota does not provide Trouble Code driven diagnostic charts for this vehicle. Refer to "Circuit Test Charts" under "Non-Trouble Code Procedures" and testing procedures for the component or system to which the Trouble Code refers. See: Computers and Control Systems > Component Tests and General Diagnostics > Circuit Test Charts (For Trouble Code Diagnosis)
Chart numbers and components or systems related to testing for each Trouble Code are listed below.

Note: Not all Codes are applicable to all models.

Code 12: Refer to Chart 5 and Ignition System testing
Code 13: Refer to Ignition System testing
Code 14: Refer to Chart 7
Code 16: Refer to ECM testing
Code 21: Refer to Oxygen Sensor test under "Circuit Test Charts" and component/circuit testing
Code 22: Refer to Chart 4
Code 24: Refer to Chart 3
Code 25: Refer to Chart 9 and Oxygen Sensor test under "Circuit Test Charts" and component testing
Code 26: Refer to Chart 9 and Oxygen Sensor test under "Circuit Test Charts" and component testing
Code 27: Refer to Oxygen Sensor test under "Circuit Test Charts" and component testing
Code 31: Refer to Chart 3
Code 32: Refer to Chart 3
Code 41: Refer to Chart 2
Code 42: Refer to Vehicle Speed Sensor component testing
Code 43: Refer to Chart 5
Code 51: Refer to Chart 2, A/C Switch circuit, or PNP Switch (A/T) component testing
Code 52: Refer to Knock Sensor component testing
Code 53: Refer to ECM testing
Code 71: Refer to EGR Gas Temp Sensor test under "Circuit Test Charts" and component testing

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES OUTPUT
To obtain an output of diagnostic trouble codes, proceed as follows:

1. Initial conditions
a. Battery voltage 11 volts or more.
B. Throttle valve fully closed (throttle position sensor IDL points closed).
C. Transmission in neutral range.
D. Accessories switched OFF.
E. Engine at normal operating temperature.

2. Turn the ignition switch ON. Do not start the engine.

3. Using SST, connect terminals TE1 and E1 of the DLC 1.

SST: 09843-18020

HINT: The DLC 1 is located near the No.2 relay block.

4. Read the diagnostic trouble code as indicated by the number of flashes of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp.

ImageOpen In New TabZoom/Print

a. Normal System Operation
The lamp will blink 2 times per second.

ImageOpen In New TabZoom/Print

b. Malfunction Code Indication
The lamp will blink a number of times equal to the malfunction code with pauses as follows:
1. Between the first digit and second digit. 1.5 seconds.
2. Between code and code, 2.5 seconds.
3. Between all malfunction codes, 4.5 seconds. The diagnostic trouble code series will be repeated as long as the DLC 1 terminals TE1 and E1 are connected.

ImageOpen In New TabZoom/Print

HINT: In the event of a number of trouble codes. Indication will begin from the small value and continue to the larger in order.

C. 2 trip detection logic:
The diagnostic trouble codes 21, 25, 26.27 and 71 use "2 trip detection logic". With this logic, when a logic malfunction is first detected, the malfunction is temporarily stored in the ECM memory. If the same case is detected again during the second drive test, this second detection causes the Malfunction Indicator Lamp to light up.
The 2 trip repeats the same mode a 2nd time. (However, the IG SW must be turned OFF between the 1st time and 2nd time).

5. After the diagnostic check, remove SST.

SST: 09843-18020

DIAGNOSIS INDICATION
1. When 2 or more codes are indicated, the lowest number (code) will appear first.
2. All detected diagnostic trouble codes, except for code No.51 and No.53, will be retained in memory by the ECM from the time of detection until cancelled out.
3. Once the malfunction is cleared, the Malfunction Indicator Lamp on the instrument panel will go off but the diagnostic trouble code (s) remain stored in ECM memory (except for code 51 and 53).
