I have a 1980 CJ-7 Jeep with a Mortorcraft 2100D 2bbl carb on it witch was leaking gas from the power valve and accelerator pump diaphram. But the Jeep started the first time everytime. I had it rebuilt over the weekend and now its not leaking from the previous spots but it is leaking from 2 other spots. The real problem is I now have to pump the peddle about 15 times then hold the peddle down to the floor for it to start. I would just like to know if I can fix this without taking it back to the bone head that did this.

I took the jeep back to the shop and it is now not leaking at all but still cannot get it to start right. I have to pump the gas 10-15 times then turn the key. I think some how the gas in the float bowl is draining out and the jeep won't start until it fills back up with gas but I am not sure I would have to take the top of the carb off and look but if any of you have any idea what is going on I would appiciate your help. Thanks.

I decided to take the air horn off of the carburetor and see if there was any fuel in the float bowl and as it turns out there was the old Needle seat gasket in the float bowl so I removed it and made sure the float was not stuck then let the jeep set for 20 min. I also found the the distributor cap was just a bit loose so I wiggled it a little and it sounded like it snapped in place. Then I checked all my plug wires and coil wire and tried starting it up. It worked first time no pumping the gas pedal. I put the air horn (top part of carb) back on the carb and everything is working fine now. I am not sure if it was the gasket in the float bowl, stuck float, or loose distributor cap or all three but its working fine now. Maybe this info will help someone else.
