Engine Runs rough under load

1998 Isuzu Trooper 3.5L DOHC, 121,300 miles, Auto Transmission. Engine surges when pulling up a hill. Accellerates normally on level road. Check engine light comes on after approximately 1 minute going up hill. Trouble code PO 306 is indicated (Misfie in cylinder # 6). No other codes.

I pulled spark pllug # 6. Gap was reset, no carbon deposits. Normal wear observed. Symptoms remain.

What could be causing this problem?
