About 2 weeks ago I got in my car and the information display said "Headlight System Error" and was fading in and out. The next day the screen was black and the buttons on my steering wheel would start and stop on their own. A week later the instrument panel went completely dark, no lights.

I disconnected the negative cord from the battery to reset but that did not help at all. I can't find the fuse or what number and what fuse box it maybe in. All the outside lights work, brake, taillights, headlights and high beams. I have no idea what the issue is. I guess i'm just trying to see if anyone else had this issue before I go to Nissan?

More than likely this is the display control unit (DCU) is the issue but there is testing that we need to run through in order to confirm it.

I attached this testing below and let me know if you have questions. However, the fact that the display screen is blank, may prevent you from completing this testing.

Let's run through this and go from there. Thanks

Thank you for responding appreciate it. I’m not sure if you misunderstood me I don’t really know the names of things but I was talking about the screen behind my steering wheel.

I did however follow the steps you sent and nothing happened the diagnose screen never comes up.

Thank you for that video. I may have misunderstood but we should check the fuses that go to the cluster. I attached the wiring diagram below that show these circuits. Also, the fuse panel layouts. We need to look at fuse 65 in the fuse box on the left side of the engine compartment. Then fuse 13 and 31 in the left side of the dash.

As long as these are okay, then I am sure the cluster itself as failed and needs to be replaced.

So no issue with the fuses inside the vehicle. I just want to clarify all the issues, I’m doing a poor job at that not a car person my apologies.
My speedometer, gas gage, and RPMs all work but the light does not.
Dimmer buttons do not work.
All outside lights work but high beam indicator inside doesn’t, nor does the low gas indicator.
Nothing on the steering wheel works except the horn.
Information screen is dark and does not come on at all, before it went out it said “ Headlight System Error please see owner’s manual “

I appreciate the help a lot this shouldn’t be happening I’m done with Nissan.

I understand. You are better at explaining it then you think. It was my misunderstanding before.

If it were me, I would put a call into Nissan themselves and see what they say. This vehicle is only 4 years old and I agree that this is not something that normally happens, so they may offer to help get it repaired. More then likely they will ask you to take it to a dealer to get diagnosed so they can determine at what level they would help if they don't just pay for the repair.

Otherwise the best likely cause of this is the cluster. Unfortunately the information system that is in the middle of the cluster is contained in the cluster. It is just a display screen so it sounds like that is the issue.

So it is the cluster. Wish I wouldn’t have spent $221.00 to find that out. Hooked it up to a test cluster and worked fine but no sign of headlight systems error. Audio buttons still don’t work on steering wheel with test cluster. Mechanic said that is another issue. Going to search for a used part because it’s $950.00 at Nissan plus $25.00 for calibration which I real don’t know what the calibration is.

Wow. Great info. Thanks for the update. The calibration is most likely the compass but I don't show any programming needed. Thanks again for the update.
