Inertia switch location?

Have 11.9 at 2sec Only 9.6 at cranking Do I have ECU problem? Do I have a bad inertia switch?

Hello again.

The 2 seconds is good but the voltage is too low. You have either a bad battery or the battery needs to be charged. You need 12.6 volts at the battery. When cranking it should go no lower than 10.8 volts. Here is the location of the inertia switch. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

If I can jump in here. it sounds like the fuel pump relay is no good. here is a guide to help test it and the relay location as well below:

My truck's engine is dying while i'm driving. I've narrowed it down to fuel, but it's not the pump. I'm pretty sure it's the fuel shutoff. Is there anyway to bypass the fuel shutoff switch

The shutoff shouldnt be doing that. How have you narrowed it down to that? Are you sure the pump is turning off when the vehicle issue starts?

My truck shut off one day. I reset the fuel shutoff button and it started fine. But it intermittently shuts off again. I reset button and in a couple days the same thing.

If it keeps triping the switch then eaither the switch is bad or the connection to it is burnt. Replace the switch and the connector.

I've owned the truck for a month. 2 weeks ago the truck died when I was taking a turn on a smooth road. I had a passenger in the passenger side. The truck would turnover but not start at first. I kept trying and after letting it sit for 5 mins, it started back up but then died when I put it in gear and took my foot off the break. I tried to start it again, and it fired right up. I immediately replaced the fuel filter, cleaned the mas airflow sensor and added fuel injector cleaner. Everything seemed fine. 2 days later, with a passenger in the truck and after running errands, with multiple it randomly would not start again. I waited 10 minutes and it started fine.

Fast forward to yesterday. For 2 weeks there have been no issues. I drove to work alone, no problem. I had a meeting in the afternoon which I took my coworkers with me and it wouldn't start. It finally started, put it in gear, backed it up and it died again. For ten minutes it turned over but did not start. Everyone got our of the truck, I tried it again and it started no problem. I put it in gear and it died. Then I tried it again and it started up and drove fine. Since yesterday I've had no issues.

I wonder if it's the inertia shut off switch. The connection looks fine. Can the switch slowly go out over time?

Ford's inertia switch is a circuit breaker. It doesn't fail slowly, and if it trips, it won't work again until it is manually reset.

This is more typical of a failing crankshaft position sensor or camshaft position sensor. They often fail by becoming heat-sensitive, then they work again after they cool down for an hour.

Start by reading and recording the diagnostic fault codes. The people at many auto parts stores will do that for you for free.

Driving down the road my truck shuts off! (Acts like lost of fuel). Tow to ford dealer $165.00 later no part install, $80.00 tow bill and told a reset set button was done! This has happen twice now Ford man states that only "Ford" can reset the button! So is the Fuel pump going bad or a reset button! I'm not going back to the Ford man. He got me twice! No more!

No after about 20/30 min. My engine shuts off. If I have a passenger with me they can push the button while i'm coasting and the truck will start up and run. I also noticed that the area is very warm to the touch! Thanks

There's a short within the fuel pump circuit-try swapping the fuel pump relay with a like one and see what happens.

Hi guys again I have a 2000 ford ranger 3.0 v6 like I was saying before I turn the truck on and I hear hmmm from the fuel pump guessing that its not the fuel pump but there is no pressure what so ever from the pump to the filter checked the shut off switch and that's fine connectors look fine but no pressure. Their are two black objects behind the fuel tank one is a round black object and the other is black box can you please tell what are those one I think is pollution control please guys guys need help on this one need my truck lol

I would disconnect the fuel before the filter. Turn the key to see if you comes out with good pressure. If it does not then I would say your pump is not working.

Where is the fuel shut off switch on a 2000 Ford ranger? This is such an easy thing, seems so hard to find an asnswer. Course this wounld not be a problem if I had an owners manuel. The guys that the ford garage won't tell me.
