Hi my mother inlaw has a 1998 hyundai excell 180000km plus, a very tired engine but still runs well when going. The problem she has got is when the engine is at running temprature or hot days the car will not restart, the engine will not crank. It tries to, you can hear the altanator or something try and kick in, but no start. We have replaced battery's, starter motors and alternators all to have the same problem occur again. The strange thing is that she now uses a battery jump pack to start the engine which works every time.

You've replaced batteries, starter motors, and alternators, you say. What order did you replace them in? The problem you are having sounds like a battery, but if you had a bad alternator and a bad battery (simultaneously) and you replaced the alternator before the recharging the battery, you could have killed another alternator (they're not made to FULLY charge the battery).

A store like Autozone, O'Reilly's, or Advance, I believe, can test the alternator and battery for you, so you can remove them and take them in and see if either is bad.

You should also check that the ground strap on your car is fitted and in good order, if you still have problems after sorting the alt & battery out.
