Accent does not fire

I HAVE A 98 Hyundai Accent 1.5l. On occasion it will not start. Being a manual I can push start it.
When this problem happens the engine will turn over, the starter works & is engaging the flywheel as it should but will not fire. The fix is to push it in Neutral... Jump in & pop it into gear then it will start right up. Even if I let the car come to a dead stop after dropping it into gear & not trying to start it on the move, it will fire & run fine.
Anyone have a clue?

I am stumped on this one. The common thread is movement of the vehicle before it will start. When it fails to start check to see if the plugs are getting spark. Then check to see if the cylinders are getting fuel. You will find that one of those two is missing. This sounds like a short or a blockage of fuel. Start with the those two.

A local mechanic mentioned the fuel pump. Would there be something with the fuel pump that would move when the car moves?
