Its miles are at 206k and its a honda lxi 1988 model. I think the problem lies within the starter area, as that is where I think something broke. I was starting it while going to work, and I hear a turn over, then a CHLUNK. This clunk was the sound of a metal thing snapping or clashing or something along those lines. And now when I try to start the car, it sounds like a humming sound.

So this is my theory, with almost no knowledge of car starters, or what is involved. The thing that does the "turn over" I think thats the term anyway, snapped. And the starter is mearly turning, at a high speed, cauing a humming sound. Now, what all would need to be fixed if this was the case? Would I need a new starter? Or would I need something that connects to it? All suggestions are welcome. Thank sin advance.

Chances are best that a new, rebuilt starter, or used one will fix your problem. You have lost the solenoid on the starter that kicks out the starter gear. Without it the starter just turns and does not engage. Replace the starter.
