1999 4-Cylinder Accord randomly won't start (83000 miles)

Our Accord didn't start about 3 months ago. (It has a manual transmission). Although the engine would turn over, it wouldn't start. The battery was only about 2 months old. I tried jump-starting the car, and it worked.

The battery place couldn't check the battery, but they gave me a new one anyway.

This weekend, after driving it around, we stopped for dinner. After dinner, it wouldn't start again. I tried jump starting it, but it didn't work. I noticed that when I turned the key, the electric odometer would never light up. It still cranked over, but wouldn't start.

Car was towed to the shop. Today, it started fine. Shop checked the battery, starter, and alternator, and said they were good.

It did stop working for them once during the day, but then it started working again.

Suggestions?

I had a similar problem. Call your honda dealer and give your vin number. There is a recall on some cars 98-02 on the ignition switch.

Thanks!

My car died again a few days later, and I was able to determine that the problem was related to a wiring harness that was used between Honda's harness from the ignition, and the car alarm that had been installed at the dealer.
