The "Battery" warning light means the battery is not being recharged while you're driving. If the battery is in good shape, that can give you up to an hour to get to a repair shop before the battery runs dead. Less time if you use a lot of electrical stuff like the head lights, heater fan, radio, and wipers. If you just keep on driving, the battery is going to run dead very quickly.

At this point a jump-start will get the engine started, but you need to use a portable charger to charge the battery at a slow rate for an hour or two, then have the charging system tested. The main suspect is a failed generator.
