jumping speedometer

my spedometer jumps out of control in my 94 GMC Yukon. Where is a good place to start looking for the problem and the cause? Thank You

there is alot of diagnostic time involved , you would have to have a scanner to check the input speed signal from the transmission vss vehicle speed sensor is there and ok then move up to the clutser
