1997 GMC Jimmy won't start dead

Help-I'm an unemployed single mom running out of money-Monday my Jimmy did fine. That evening I went to p/u my son-turned the key-nothing. I tried a jump-nothing. No interior lights, no anything. Also, key stuck in ignition-had that problem about 1 1/2 yrs ago-finally found mechanic who discovered was ignition I pulled cover there is a plastic piece that works that which I discovered by trying to replace but it has a lip with a grove that I can't figure out how to insert back in. I'm desperate, guys. Any ideas?

Hi:
The first thing I need you to do is determing if the battery is good. If so, make sure the terminals, ground, and the positive lead to the starter are clean and tight. Does the horn or interior lights work?
