wheel shaking

i have a 1998 gmc sierra 1500 5.7 litter
every time i slow down and put my foot on the brake
my stearing wheel shakes really bad also i get stearing wheel vibration between 45 mph and 55 mph
what could this be ????

the shaking you're feeling when you brake is due to the front rotors being warped, the shaking while driving would be in the tires. have the tires balanced and the rotors turned or replaced.
