I have to replace the wheel studs on my left front hub/brake assembly, which requires removal. i followed all the steps from my Haynes, removed the hub locking mechanism, but the thing still won't come off. am i missing something? any tricks to motivate this thing off of here?

Will the ring in the pic come off, because if I remember right it should spin off allowing access to the outer bearing and essentially allowing the rotor to come off

Looks like it should spin off, but I couldn't get it to budge loose (used a pair of pliers wedged in there) is there a special socket for this?

There is a special socket for the nut, you should be able to pick it up at any large auto parts store or sears
