The truck listed above is a k1500. When I turn the key to the on position and the fuel pump comes on and does not turn off after a couple of seconds. Is this normal? I am having issues with the truck losing power and also not starting (but not often).

Hi,

The fuel pump should stay on for a couple of seconds or until there is ignition, and the engine starts. When you say it loses power, is there anything you notice that may lead to it?

Keep in mind, if the fuel pump is going bad and the pressure is low, that can cause power issues and a hard start.

Do me a favor. Let's check for diagnostic trouble codes. This truck has an OBD1 system, and you don't need a scan tool to retrieve codes. All that is needed is a short jumper wire or even a paper clip.

Follow the directions in this link and let me know what you find:

I will watch for your reply.

Take care,

Joe
