Everytime I drive my car I will come to a stop turn the car off, and when I go to start it all I hear is a click the car will not even try to start, the only way I can start it is by jumping it and banging on the starter with a hammer. It does not do it all the time but most of the time it will, any ideas I have a few but I would like your opinion

Sounds like your brushes are worn out. Or a bad connection on selinoid. Which starter do you have old style or new. Large or small. The old style(large) has no selenoid at the starter itself. That starter has a ground connection that's a simple pinch under bendix cover. On the new style the ignition wire is a push on connector that can be loose/corroded or not properly connected.
