Okay, chances are you could either have a battery issue or a starter issue.

I attached a wiring diagram for you to check and see if there is power to the starter in the start position.

Also, the battery needs to be load tested as well to be sure it is able to supply power.

In the last few weeks the car has been slow to start in the morning, but better later on. Then today it was even worse even after driving it. I had the battery, starter and alternator tested and everything was fine. What could be the problem?

When you say slow to start, do you mean it is taking longer than normal or do you mean the engine is cranking slowly?

Sometime when I turn the key it's like the battery is almost dead then it starts up after a few seconds - other times it starts right up!

If the starter sometimes cranks slowly, check to make sure all battery terminals are clean and tight. If they are, you need to have the starter checked to see if it is drawing too many amps when that happens. It may be in the process of going bad.

I have a 96 taurus its very hard to start I have to start it 25 to 30 times before it will keep on running the it runs very bad for 2 t0 4 minutes the rpm starts around 100 and goes up very slowly until it 600 rpm then it kick in and iddles very good at 1000 rpm. It will iddle no problems until I try to push the accelerator I can bring the rpm to 2000 very slowly but no more or it will staled if I dont let go of the peddle. When iddling the fuel presure stays around 40 if I rev it up the fuel presure drops to 10 lbs.I think that it must be the fuel pump but I cant get why it would be hard to start like that. It makes no difference if I just put the key to run to pump fuel up the rails Itried to turn the key on until the pump stops many times before trying to start the engine and it makes no difference for the first start its always a long time and many minutes before it iddles good.I was wondering if its the fuel pump that is gone can I instale a electric one on the fuel line instead of replacing the very expencive one in the thank.
Thanks in advance to any reply or suggestionsto my problem. The engine is a 3 litre 24 valve.

Sounds like the pump is bad. Takes alot of pressure to get a good spray through the injectors, that is why it is hard to start. No, the tank unit is the only viable replacement
