Hello, I have a 1993 Ford Taurus Wagon with the 3.0 V6 with 62,000 miles.

The problem first began when the car would unexpectantly shut off, often related to turning. The engine would quickly die (no sputtering) and it would lose all power, brakes would become very difficult to compress, power steering went out as well. When the car coasted to a stop I had to put it into park and re-start. The first couple times it happened re-starting was easy and had no hesitations.

Now it happened again and it will no longer start up. I have located some problems...

No spark at plugs
No power to the coil

What is before the coil? Like what computer module would control the current sent to the coil? Im confused how it was so intermitent, id associate electrical problems to pretty much work and die completely.

Thanks for any help given!!!

You may have a cam or crank sensor that has failed.

Eeee... that sounds pretty bad, well could be worse but cranks and cams are pretty deep in the whole thing. If they have failed, would they show in a computer scan? Also, how difficult is something such as that to replace?

Thanks!

The shafts are deep - yes but the sensors are external on the surface. Sometimes they are hard to find. But a computer scan should find it, however, you probably would need to take it to the shop for the scan. OBD or OBDI vs. OBD2. OBD2 is easy and every owner of a car 1996 and newer should own a service manual and scanner. Cost of these items together is $50. You have a car that is prior to OBD2 (On Board Diagnostics) and getting the code would probably require the shop to read.
