My truck died while I was driving down the street. When I tried to starting it, the engine would not turn over. Could this be an electrical problem. I changed the alternator recently, so i'm thinking that's off the list.

Have you ever changed your timing belt? Your year ranger has a timing belt rather then a chain. It's possible that the belt snapped, which would have caused the engine to die and not start again on the road. If this happened don't worry you didn't wrecked your engine, it's a free floating engine. (There's clearance between your valves and pistons) Ford recommends that the belt be changed every 60K miles or so. This belt is located behind a black plastic shield, at the top front of your engine. It connects from your camshaft to your crankshaft. You should be able to pull back the shield and peek behind it, or it comes off with a few bolts and some clips.
