1st Try cleaning the MAF sensor with an electronic cleaner CRC and see what happens

I see. I know NOTHING about trucks so I hope i'm not asking too many questions. Where exactly is the MAF sensor located? And where would I find an electronic cleaner?

Hi I have a 92 ford ranger with a 2.3 liter 4 cylinder in it. I have replaced the fuel pump, spark plugs, wires, battery, head gasket, coils, fuel filter, and it still does not have any power I have checked for exshaust blockage as well and had the timing checked twice im very frusterated with this and am stumbling to find the problem. I have been told that it could b a censor what sensor would b the most likely for no power I dont know? Also the motor has two spark plugs per cylinder would this motor halfto b timed diferently than the regular 2.3 liter? It idles fine and starts right up but as soon as u excelerate its like theres nothing there 3/4 throttle to get up too 55mph is just crazy please help!

Dave:
There isn't a specific sensor that would cause this. Are you sure the exhaust (catalytic converter) isn't plugged and timing is correct? If everything checks okay, then I question fuel pump pressure or the PCM isn't advancing the timing like it should.

Since the fuel pump in inside the fuel tank, (which is a pain in the rear to get to) wouldnt it be better to bypass it and install a fuel pump along the frame rail somewhere before the fuel filter?

Not really, just few bolts hold the bed on the truck. Just lift off the bed and voila instant access to the fuel pump.

You were pretty close bluelightnin6. Spray the 6 bolts with penetrating oil from under the bed. One bolt you cant see due to fuel tank is blocking it. Disconnect the electrical connection underneath the rear bumper and remove the 3 screws that hold the fuel filler to the bed and thats it! My son and I lifted the bed up set it back a couple feet and let it rest on the frame. Perfect access to fuel tank. Removed the old pump and sensor installed the new one. Lifted the bed back in place reinstalled the bolts. Took about 2hrs. Just a reminder. The front 2 bed bolts are longer than the others.

I replaced the gas tank filler tube. Truck would not start. Introduced 'engine start' spray and it would start but not keep running. I removed fuel tank again with wiring attached and open hose from pump visible. I turned the ignition on. Fuel pumped for about 2 seconds and stopped. Is the pump operation right or should I replace it? If it is right, do I need to prime the system some how?

It should run only about 2 seconds just enough for he pump to prime he fuel system.

Once its primed the vehicle is ready to start.

1994 ford ranger 2.3 stand 2wd-starts fine and runs 5 mins and starts to***** like a misfire. In nuetral it does not misfire but give it gas in 1st at about 15rpm it starts to misfire until I change gears. If I floor it, it clears out the misfire as long as I keep it floored. I changed the plugs, dual coils pks, cleaned the fuel pump and tank, put new fuel filter. Can u please help me?

Could be caused by one of the following below

Oxygen sensor.
Catalytic converter.
Fuel injectors dirty/sticking.
Mass airflow sensor/Airflow meter.
Throttle position sensor.
Crankshaft position sensor
Knock sensor
Manifold absolute pressure sensor.
EGR Valve
Fuel pressure regulator leaking or defective fuel pump.
Fuel contamination.
Foul/defective spark plugs.
Open spark plug wires.
Ignition coil/Coil packs defective.
Incorrect ignition timing.
Cap and rotor.

Note:If it doesn't apply disregard it and keep testing.

I was wondering what is going on with my truck. I have a 1992 Ford Ranger 2.3L and it will not turn the fuel pump on with the ignition. I have replaced the fuel filter and it did not do the trick. What could be wrong.

The relay under the hood in the power distribution center, turns the pump on for only 2-3 seconds with key on, so, take the fuel cap off, have someone turn the key to on, and see if you hear it run briefly...if not, check in car fuse and that relay, if they are OK fuel pump may need replacing. Sure way to read pressure is with test gauge! You will find a schreadervalve on the fuel rail, hook up gauge there turn key on, see if there is pressure...

Ground the fuel pump test pin and turn key on, does pump run? If yes relay or fuse NG! If no and there is power at pump connector, the pump is NG!
