Engine cranks, fuel pumps to 40psi, spark is good -- no start. Fuel pump replaced twice; when key is on, pump starts and continues to run. When pump starts for a second or two and stops, the engine starts everytime. Is it the EEC? Would any sensors or controls keep the fuel pump running in start-up?

Dr. Ras, the relays check out and the pump runs when called upon by the relay, outputting 40psi. The EEC doesn't output any codes at all because the when the key is turned on, the fuel pump starts and doesn't turn off. In the past, the codes start ( and the engine will too) only when the fuel pump stops in the start-up sequence. Is there any reason to think the EEC is not senile? I know of no sensors that tell the EEC to keep the fuel pump running with the key only 'ON', not start. My Ranger is 2 solid weeks with no start.

Lets do this find the fuel pump connector and power the pink and black wire on it direct from the battery positive terminal and tell me what happened.

Also check for spark and get back

Rasmataz: I connected the positive to the fuel pump pink&black -- pump runs continuously(40psi). All six plugs spark. Here's the kicker today: I removed and inspected the EEC-IV with a magnifying glass. I was looking for a crack or broken board. I found a capacitor that had popped out the bottom. So I replaced it and thought everything would be fixed. No. Same condition, and I did your tests after that.
