I have a 2000 F150 4x4 with a 5.4L V8. It has 236,000 miles and is in decent shape. I have recently had some trouble with the four wheel drive not engaging, I have changed the shift motor on the transfer case and that did not cure it. The transfer case is shifting now but it seems that the hubs are not. I did find the vacume axle lock and it seems to move fine into 2 wheel drive but when you try to engage 4 wheel drive it doesn't seem to move far enough to engage the hubs. I guess my question is can the vacume motor be repaired or should I just buy a new one or could it be the hubs are bad?

I'd keep the system the same as well. I don't know if our systems are the same exactly, but I have has a bit of a rust build up on the tubes going to the hubs, right at the wheels. I had to pull them off, clean them and reseat them to stop the vacuum loss.
