I know on some of the cars with mechanical clutches, you have to hook your foot under the clutch pedal and lift it up, there was a type of ratchet system built into the pedal, not sure if yours is this way... if hydraulic not mechanical, isn't it a self-adjusting clutch???

The type of clutch you have is hydraulic and it is self-adjusting. If you have a suspicion that it isn't working to it's fullest, change the fluid and bleed the system.
