Electrical problem
1994 Ford F150 V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

When I turn the key there is a single click then nothing. This happens every time I try. The dash lights and headlights seem strong. The battery tested at 12.4. The click is coming from a round part behind the battery. It has a main battery cable running to it. I think this might be the solenoid. Would that be bad or is it the starter or something else.

The "clinking thing" is the starter solenoid. The heavy wire on the opposite side from the battery cable should go to the starter. Test this wire for 12 volts when you turn the key to start, and you hear the solenoid click. If you have no voltage to the starter wire, replace the solenoid. If you DO have 12 volts, you probably need a new starter. Hope this helps.
