Hi I have a 93 ford explorer four door, what do I need to change if I want my truck to run smooth while driving? Also every time I go in a bump the truck feels like it hits really hard what do I need to do to stop that.

What do you mean run smooth? What does it do when you drive? When you hit the bumps and it sounds like that it could be many things. Shocks, old tires, brakes or even your front end. Have you kept up with all your regular matainence?

They help cushon the recoil from the springs absorbing the bumps.

Unfortunately. 13 year old vehicles are not as tight as new. It's possible the shocks are not taking the initial shot very well and responding quickly enough, about par for the course if the shocks are that old, are they original? You could change them. However I wouldn't get my hopes up for that like-new ride, my vehicles have their own set of creaks and groans.
