1997 Ford Explorer Driver's side door latch shut tight

1997 Ford Explorer V8 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 100K miles

I cannot shut the driver's side door. The latch on the door is closed and I can't pry it open or pop it open using the power lock and unlock. I tried hitting the unlock button repeatedly while opening the door handle repeatedly, but it won't pop open. The door just hits the car and bounces back.

I can't drive it with the door open, so not sure how to fix it and could use some help (my 19 year old daughter uses it for school).
